Description

For Dana (-pommet) a very dedicated photographer, and not to forget, a very fine and kind person. :o) Lübeck - Holsten Tor. The city's old city gate is build 1478 and is a remnant of Lübeck's preserved fortifications and city walls. Lübeck needed these as a rich and powerful and independant city state and was the most prominent member of the Hanseatic Legaue and it was the second biggest city after Köln (Cologne). Inside the thick walls of this beautiful gate is now placed a very interesting museum, telling the story of the city. The buildings left are old warehouses on the banks of the river Trave, which encircles the Altstadt (Old City) on the river's way to the Baltic Sea 15 Kilometers to the north (9 1/2 miles).
