Description
Southern Utah, Capitol Reef area.
The striped, chocolate-brown rock in the foreground is called Moenkopi, and it was laid down about 240 million years ago during the Triassic. If I remember correctly, it was formed by layers of mud settling in a bog-like environment and later hardening into rock.
The pretty gray and burgundy rock sitting on top of the Moenkopi is Chinle formation.
Don't worry ... There won't be a test later! LOL!
