...all is not what it seems.
Mardan handed her the bag of coins that was her due for the work.
"I would have done it for nothing, you know...but we need the funds to do our work," she said looking at him with those disturbing eyes. The man saw worse every day in the empty sockets of his masters eyes. He understood better than most.
"I know, for you suffered as well at the hands of these monsters. Still, we would pay you. It's only right."
12 smiled strangely. "Right and wrong are relative to the side of the fence on which one is standing. Is that not so, Mardan? They made us monsters, but it is they who are the monsters. Do you really think he will pass on, now that Baradoz has been disposed of?"
"I do," Mardan answered.
"Then aye, may he find peace at last." She turned and walked into the flames of the fireplace, disappearing in a puff of smoke.

I obviously need to go back and read this tale from the beginning. This definitely makes for a compelling "trailer."

Awesome image and story Ray!! "She turned and walked into the flames of the fireplace, and disappeared in a "puff" of smoke".....I hope that isn't the end of this character....I'd like to see more of the story, and the character is fascinating......I've never seen a character quite like her before....she's unique...I hope to see more of this story Ray!!!
