Description
Anax imperator. Britain's largest dragonfly.
An exciting visitor to my garden on the last day of June. They are very fast and restless and perch only rarely so I was very lucky to get this pic with my Tizzy.
The male Broad-bodied Chaser was there too, and they each deeply resented the other being there, resulting in brief aerial dogfights which I was not clever enough to catch.

awesome !!!!!!!
Superb capture Andrea. God bless.
Awesome capture!
Super cool and love the rainbow of COLORS!!!!
Fantastic capture, I half expect to see a photograph from your garden of a Passenger Pigeon very soon!, the place seems to be a haven for wildlife, and very beautiful it is too. This capture is first class with nice detail. Nature can be equally if not more beautiful than any artists efforts.
Excellent clarity when viewed large. Great job!
Wonderful shot of this beauty.
Wonderful capture Andrea They are so much fun to watch
Wow. Impressive capture and shot.
Beautiful capture!
A TOP CLASS shot! What a beauty! You lucky girl, having this call into your garden. I have never got anywhere near one. I only got a good view of one with my binoculars.
Excellent close-up Andrea!
This is an excellent capture Andrea, I would love to own a pic like this.
They are amazing critters!!
Stunning details. Wonderful.
GREAT SHOT
More evidence that the emperor wears no clothes. Stunning macro of the garden visitor, and the fine detail on its wings is remarkable. Well done by both you and Tizzy.
A must zoom - spectacular details and colors in this capture Andrea!!!!
What an absolute miracle of construction these creatures are! Wonderful capture of his imperial highness!
I'm guessing you don't want to tangle with this one. The aerial dogfight must have been reminiscent of the Blitz. An unbelievable image. Super sharp and detailed. Superb work.
What a beauty I've not seen any yet this year.
Outstanding Andrea, and a perfect specimen to boot!
What a regal looking creature. It reminds me of our Common Green Darner and by your description of it's behavior sounds similar as well. I spend way more time than I should in trying to photograph Dragonflies in flight - with very little success I might add, lol. Well captured. Lee
Those transparent wings are amazing, and you've shown them off perfectly with the background. Excellent shot!
