Description
This shows a pair of Slaty Skimmers (Libellula incesta) mating. The male holds tightly to the neck of the female as they fly about the pond and she lays eggs. He does this to prevent other males from mating with her also because male Dragonflies can remove a rivals eggs from a female. With some other species, the male hovers near the female as she lays eggs so he can chase away other males.
