The dramatic quality of the sunlight and cloud-shadow works very well with the starkness of the terrain, and the human figures dwarfed by the towering colossus of the alien machine/crashed spacecraft ... Combined these elements build a certain sense of tension/apprehension/wonder. This is a success on all levels and I rate it a 5+. Inspired by what you have produced in this image the alternative thought occurs: considering all the elements in play here, I am wondering if the dramatic impact of the image might be enhanced by altering only the alien machine/spacecraft. You have started with basically a starfish form: what if instead of the decayed/blemished but otherwise somewhat featureless metal you built a single segment (to be replicated into as many arms as needed), more detailed with the addition of greebles: ribs, spars, perhaps pipes running along the surface, puckered apertures made with hollow cut cones lending an almost suction-cup like appearance, and instead of the blue-glow, how about a dim, brooding, red glow ...

Great lighting and composition. The scale of the structure with the effect of the "God Rays" make it feel very ominous.

Good use of god-rays. I like this one a lot as is, but having seen your later version first, I have to say that the second version is far more effective and creates a much more iconic image in my mind at least.
