Description
After my first breakup, I purposefully stayed away from the possibility of a new relationship for a long time, observing others and waiting for something to happen. Everyone seems to come to me with their problems even though I've only ever had one relationship, and I seem to know how things are going to work out before they happen. Still though, maybe I'm just avoiding getting hurt again, and this poem was inspired by that thought. It's not entirely personal, but it's based around that idea.
Solitary
by Caleb Myers
On that day I took flight
though I wouldn't allow myself
the pleasure of thinking, or
the curse of freedom
A spectator in my own game
I forbid the impracticality of self-pity;
ignorant in my journey.
Assured the ascent
is worth the fall
I know your path--
how the line weaves
and intersects those around you
And I dread the future,
avoiding the day I allow myself
the pleasure of freedom,
the curse of thinking.
Because I know on that day,
when I look down on the world and
observe everyone's lives
The only home I can't see
is my own.

I wish I could read it.
Why can't you read it? Is English not your first language? I can see it just fine.
I think sometimes people are afraid to be happy, because of the hurt. I have lost many that I love over the years and now shield away from any new friendships in fear that I will lose them too. Sadly the only one really getting hurt is myself for not allowing any new people into my life. Wonderful writing, makes you think.
Hey, thanks for your kind comments...nearly six months ago, now. I haven't been on this site in a long time, clearly. If you like my writing, you can find almost all of my work updated frequently at http://grenswords.tumblr.com :3
