Salamander VS Newt. Is there much of a difference?
Newts are a subgroup of salamanders, so all newts are salamanders, but not all salamanders are newts. Since I don't know what kind this is, I played it safe & just called it a salamander...
There seems to be a newt - because of the wider (high) tail. So they are better able to swim in the water (water displacement). Super capture!!

Great shot! When I was growing up in Lyle, Washington, we had a pond full of these, as well as frogs. We always called these "mudguppies," but, upon Googling it, I see that the proper term is "mudpuppies" or "mud puppies." Oh well, either way, they were salamanders. Your photo brings back memories. :) Thanks for posting!
