Description

this a a acrylic painting on 24x36 inches canvas. Here the link to the photo I used as a reference. http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=1712700&user_id=199333&page=60&member&np the owner of the gallery looked at it and say i need to enter this in a show some wheres as it will win first place. i do not know but i like it too. there is a little shine on the right which I try to get rid of. I need to get some lights as i taking the photos of these paintings outside in the shade . the shine is on the big blue/black square. it all should be uniform looking of blue/black. It is not bad looking as is. I try to get it right in Photoshop but could not. I did google on how to take pro shots of paintings but lights cost money now. The owner of the gallery wonder about the red. it the only red in the image. i told her it a balance between the blue/black square as your eye goes from the blue/black square to the red and back. if it was not the red the eye would stay on the blue/black square. What do you think???

Beautiful painting! I saw a guy practicing the fretwork on his violin in the airport the other day, and this painting reminds me of that.

Jock, this is a fabulous looking painting and one you should be proud of. I also hope you will choose to enter it in a show, as people need to see this one. I also agree with your point about the red being essential to draw your eyes down from the blue and black

I like this painting Jock my personal feeling is that you can do without the red. You don,t need lights if you can shoot outside, what you need is a polarizing filter these mounts in front of the lens the filter is turned and on non metallic surfaces Glass, leaves, water etc the reflection disappears hopefully you can also use it for landscapes to darken the sky's and make clouds pop. It also helps if you use a tripod and a cable release or self timer as this means you can use a smaller iso and stop down further to get a sharper picture, hope this helps if you still want lights let me know I'll give you some ideas for cheap DIY kit.

I don't mind the red, but I also don't think it's needed. I covered it up, and my eye ran across the violin, back and forth, without noticing the black square. I suppose it's just in how we all see ... This is an amazing painting, Jock. Absolutely superb. When I saw the thumb I thought it was a photo and that you'd put it in the wrong gallery. Wow. Outstanding work!

An absolutely wonderful painting, Jock! Indeed, studio lights can be very expensive! I used to set up cheap battery-operated flash units, and place a white tissue in front of them about 6 to 8 inches away, one on each side at a 45° angle... Worked pretty well if you got the distance right to whatever you are copying...
