Description
" Come in ! ", invited Neilwil, a figure entered the workshop and Neiwil made the introductions. " Tailspin, this is Llechwedd Slatequarry, our local roofing contractor, Llechwedd, this is Tailspin". In a melodic Welsh tone Llechwedd said " Ahhh! the 'Birdman' ". Neiwil looked rather surprised, Tailspin looked rather worried. Llechwedd went on, " The Royal Male delivered your message, jobs done, your roofs as good as new ". Neiwil looked very surprised, "Blimey that was quick ! ", he said. Llechwedd explained, "well it could have been a bigger job, thought I may need scaffold see, but thanks to you leaving that ladder up against the building it took no time at all..". Neiwil cut him off, "Ladder.....what ladder.....what kind of idiot leaves a ladder against their building ?". "I was talking to Mr Tailspin" Llechwedd put in. Neiwil looked across at Tailspin, who appeared to be trying to hide in his toolbox. "Please! Llechwedd do continue" Neiwil offered, not taking his eyes off a very uncomfortable Tailspin. "Well" began Llechwedd, "I was up early as I had to go out to the quarry for supplies. I'm standing by the kitchen window, when this figure walks past, that's odd I thought, he's got wings, then I noticed the ladder he's carrying. Lovely ladder, real craftsmanship, 72 rungs at least, best I've ever had is a 50. Anyway, he puts the ladder up against the side of your house and starts to climb, not a bend or a whip, real quality for a ladder that length, English oak I thought. So he gets to the ridge in one go and stands there. Then he sucks his finger and checks the wind direction and starts flapping his wings. Faster and faster and faster, I was a bit worried, I thought ' If he's not careful, he'll take off'. Then he seemed to lose his balance and fell through your roof. Well, I thought, that'll be a job on it's way, so when the Royal Male came knocking on my door it was no great surprise. Anyway, jobs all done, I can see you're busy so I'll leave you to it, I'll send the Royal Male around with the bill if thats OK..." Neiwil stopped him, " if the ladder is so nice and useful, would that cover the bill ?" he enquired. Llechwedd looked pleased, " more than cover it, I'd have to cut a bit off, give you a few rungs change !". Neiwil waved his hand " that's alright, keep the change." he offered. Llechwedd beamed, "Thank you sir, pleasure doing business." and with that he left. Neiwil rounded on Tailspin...." Birdman eh!......just happened to be flying past eh!........got tired eh!....YOU FELL THROUGH MY BLOODY ROOF!!". Tailspin shuffled his feet, "yeh but....no but...yeh but....no!" he stammered. Neiwil held up his hand and asked " how far have you ACTUALLY flown, a mile, a yard, a foot, an inch!! ?" Tailspin became defensive, "That's uncalled for !, it's at least 20 feet from your roof to the bed", he retorted." That wasn't flying, that was FALLING like a lead buffoon", said Neiwil. They stood in silence for a minute and then Neiwil offered " Look!, just forget it...let's get this built and then you CAN fly, in comfort and safety....people will be amazed, they'll probably build statues and name a club after you....something like..the Flying Arse Association..". Tailspin was lost in a dreamworld " the FAA" he said. With the first cut of his saw Neiwil began the task of lifting mankind out of the mud, elevating them to a level with the Gods. This would be a shining testament to mans ingenuity.....this would be HISTORICAL!!!!

A ladder fetish..never heard of one of those before. Cant wait for the next installment.
HAAAA! The FAA! Flying Arse Ass...ociation! Never thought of that one! Great story, too. And Tailspin's the inspiration for FAA. Who would have thought so? And nice image to illustrate the story. No, wonder what the flying lead balloon looked like befor penetrating your roof? Keep up the good work, Neil. I'm trying to catch up with a week off-line! :-)
