Description

of course you can tell this is a couple springs ago as no fence...i have wood peckers most of the time but i only spot this one in early spring. it's the biggest one i've ever seen. i know it looks small but i grabbed my camera and peaked around the corner as you can see to capture it best i could plus it was out by the road as you can see. there is a crow behind it that kinda gives you an idea of its' scale. i swear it was as big as a duck...hope you like...i must be getting spring fever like the rest. i almost finished my owl house today. i don't know how i'm gonna get it up in the tree. it has to be 10 feet up at least. help...lol ***chills and thrills***

Yes, they are BIG. We had a pair of them in a tree near our house in Missouri. Great photo.

Oh, a Pileated is a great catch. I hear them in the river valley of my city (Edmonton) but very seldom see one and never get a good shot. We have more parkland in Edmonton than any other city in North America, and still they are hard to get near. They are easily as big as a large Crow.

yes i remember how freaked i was when i saw it out the window...you can't tell but where it is use to be an old big tree like the one you see. when i bought this place the electric utility came and request to cut down 2 large trees under the power lines and i allowed it...regretfully so now...anyway where woody is at was one of the trees and now a decaded stump that was full of termites or some insects that he/she was feasting on. this was taken with my old camera didn't have a good one then...darn it...but i'm still glad i got it from what you all are saying they are rarely seen. thank you for your comments...they motivate me...
