Description
The last few months have been lacking in much inspiration, and every time I feel like I mind have re-discovered it I start coasting again...
Usually dabbling with textures gets me out of a funk, and this was meant to be just that: textural play to inspire something more useful.
By now I should realize that these kinds of "play" often get me some surprising results. So this is just part of a larger piece that's now the "wallpaper" on my main working computer (I currently have 4 computers, but still no TV, which tells you where my priorities lie) and hopefully will find other uses before long.
This was made entirely within Adobe Photoshop, it just started out as random noise, then heavy use of motion-blur to get a "woodgrain" series of parallel blurry lines. Then the fun begins with distortions, layers of interfering patterns, etc.
It's really amazing how much time I can waste doing this, even now.

A really nice wood pattern, Mike! And quite inspiring, as well - I may have to just take a day and spend it fiddling with creating some textures in PS. I just got CS6 for Christmas, and am just blown away by it! Definitely not a waste of time, my friend!
I think it's the best you ever did! Really great, words just can't express how your presentation came out. I think it's imaginative and magnificient. Thanks for posting this!
It is interesting to see what develops when playing around.I like your priorities concerning TV.
nothing wrong with playing around. As for the TV, you ain't missin much. I play DVDs on my computer (just finished watching xXx and getting ready to watch Ultraviolet) Very cool work
Very nice pattern!
I like it! Your playing around produces such good stuff. This is deceptively simple, but there's so much going on. Nice!
beautiful wood grain.
Well presented! Great patterning~ =)
Hey, half of what I do ends up being nothing like what I planned. Every once in a while, it is better but mostly not.
