Description
Brown bear captured at the Johannesburg Zoo on New Year's day. Like us, he just lived through a cloud burst so he wasn't the friendliest bear I have ever seen... He was looking at me in "that" tone of voice... lol... My dream is to see one of these critters in the wild some day!
Thank you for popping in and for your very welcome comments and favs on my last upload "Summertime Fun".

A super portrait Carin.
Superb capture Carin. God Bless.
That looks like me in the mirror in the morning - a grumpy old bear! I like all the detail, Carin. Clive

MAGNIFICENT SHOT
Stellar mood and texture on display in this exquisite capture of the asocial bear, Dierbaar.
These are such magnificent animals, though I'm not too sure I'd like to meet one in the wild, I might end up as lunch!!
I'm not sure I see it. To me its more "Got anything to eat? And maybe a towel so I can dry off?" Excellent capture, great detail.
where's my coffee? I distinctly remember ordering a extra large strong black coffee!!!!!! Great capture
you can train them to dance. hear of that lol. not me for sure. cool shot
Lovely creature!
Fantastic portrait of this sour bear :) His expression sure doesnt look friendly :)
My dream is to NOT see any of these in the wild, LOL! What a lovely creature it is, though, when safely in a habitat that keeps us separate. Wonderful capture, Carin!
A fabulous capture, I hope you get your wish, it would be amazing if not a bit scarey :o) xx
I get antsy enough seeing black bears in the wild; I would not want to see one of these guys! They are truly massive and unpredictable!
A magnificent beast and mean stare! If you get your dream and see one in the wild, I hope it's with a very long telephoto lens!
The most cuddly looking dangerous teddy bear you could meet.
Nicely caught image!
Such a wonderful creature! Don't wanna meet one in person, but looking at them from a distance is great! This also reminds me of a story I read, a long time ago, in Ursula K. LeGuin's novel Always Coming Home which was actually a fake anthropological study of a civilization living...well...in the future. In this "study" on the folktales of the people in question, we were told a story of Coyote who decided to wage war with humans, but she didn't do it herself. She got others to do it. One day, Bear wanted to do the same thing, and actually did, but lost. Bear asked Coyote why humans were so dangerous and why bears could never defeat humans and Coyote responded: You bears sleep too much and humans f*** too much, with all that sleeping you do, you'll never beat them." Of course, in this story, Coyote also convinced Dog to go to war with humans and Dog went to wage war, but a group of women saw Dog and picked the ticks from him and fed him and so he went over to the human's side, and to this day, Coyote is very disappointed with Dog...and Bear still sleeps a lot. I have no idea where any of that came from, but I guess it was actually just evoked by this image.
That is a wonderful looking bear - for some reason - the bears in US zoos do not look that healthy!
