A woman discovers a dark secret about herself and gives new meaning to "breaking down". How will she cope with her new found truth or is it all just an illusion? Notes: The original concept for this artwork came from something I did for a render challenge back in 2009. I liked the original but I always knew I could do better. I recreated the concept completely in 2011 and this new artwork is an improvement (or upgrade) of the 2011 scene. Although much better than the previous version, I'm not completely sure if I like this one or not... which is a bummer given how long it took to create. I just don't know... What do you think? Technical Notes: The hardest part of creating this piece was figuring out what to render and when so I could layer the renders in Photoshop to create the final effect. One render had just the human parts and another with the droid parts and another with the wires... it wasn't easy and I think there were six or seven renders by the time I finished. All with IDL and SSS so it took a while. Once I got the renders done and layered them in Photoshop, I used brushes to erase the human layer in cracks to reveal the droid parts and wires then added an inner shadow to enhance the cracks. Other than that I just added a couple overlays, some adjustment layers, faked the depth of field effect, and added some steam/smoke to the background and foreground.
