A special wish for a speedy (or speedy as possible) recovery for Meadow as she is quite critically ill right now. For those unfamiliar, Meadow is one of Barbara's beautiful dogs.
Saw a lot of these flowers when we were in Catagena Columbia last month. I have no idea what they are called but found them quite impressive looking.
If anyone recognizes it and knows what they are called I would appreciate hearing from you. I'm pretty sure they would not grow up here due to the weather.

What a very beautiful flower and capture, Jim. I hope Meadow will recover soon! About the name of the plant I think this will do it: Vriesea is a genus of the botanical family Bromeliaceae, subfamily Tillandsioideae. The genus name is for Willem Hendrik de Vriese, Dutch botanist, physician.

A lovely capture of this beautiful flower and I thought it might be from the Ginger family when I first sae it, but Mies is more likely to have it right and yes I am afraid it wouldn't do at all in your climate nor mine either worse luck as it is far too tender.
