Description
Heady days for US naval fliers...breakthrough engine technologies were flying off the designer's drawing boards as well as new concepts in fuselage construction. These fliers got to try them all out... along with an exciting new portable landing field and delivery system that was beginning to come into its own, the aircraft carrier. Complying with the 1922 Naval Treaty limiting the tonnage of battleships and heavy cruisers allowable, the "Lady Lex" was originally designed as a heavy cruiser and then converted into a aircraft carrier during construction...ironically an even deadlier and more versatile beast than either the battleship or heavy cruiser that it replaced...Ever onward, ever upward. Clever, ain't we?
USS Lexington CV-2: Excellent model here on Rendo by AlicefromLake..easy on the eyes and a pleasure to work with...check it out. (With a bit of texture tweaking.)
Boeing F4B-4: Free on sketchup warehouse by wizard612 major tweaks and paint and still not done. More to come with this one, I think.
Naval aviators: US Navy Pilot by Max Greuter on sketchup warehouse...
Deck crew: Epici LW0R1 low poly base and cobbled swabbie duds.
USS Astoria: nottamun, free at the warehouse too, tweaked.

Tweak away!!! Looks well............... just darn Excellent!
Now that is niiiicccce! Interesting that about the 'value' of carriers over 'capital' ships.Mr Hitler built the biggest one of all and then bottled out, afraid of Britain's 'Big Guns', guess we're all wiser with hind sight. Another great seascape mate, worth all the 'tweeking' you do so well, a 'tip of the hat' to your skills in my most recent post :-) This ones a keeper, Instafave.... 10/10++
Very nice, indeed! It's also amusing that the debate over the importance of carriers vs battleships wasn't really answered until the Pearl Harbor attack, but many didn't realize that until the Battle of Midway...
That looks great! Very well done!
Yeah, great. It looks like a navy promotional picture of these days. Thank you for mention. ;-)
Excellent render and comments. Don't forget the naval aviation ideas which fortunately didn't progress very far such as the airship carriers and the carriers made out of ice and straw ;)
wow!! very cool!!!!!!!! nice job!!
Really NICE looking Render! I like this allot! Navy aircraft were in a class of their own I think, I think it was their paint schemes.. Ours were much the same, covered in yellows etc.. lol Good one mate! Rob
Good one! Planes and ships look great.
Great to see more "golden wings" getting around the place. Excellent!
