Description
In common literary and dramatic terminology, the dénoument is defined as the falling action that occurs before the conclusion of a play, film, or fictional text-based storytelling. It’s the part of the story that winds down to a satisfying, not-so-surprising conclusion. It is, as I’ve often thought, the end of autumn and the beginning of winter. The dénoument is—for me—a season: a time of year. It is the last-gasp flare of color splattering itself across the season of Autumn, before the onset of snowy whiteness.
The seasonal dénoument that Chicago enters at least once a year is nearly over. Winter is just around the corner and Chicago has begun to adopt its late-season grayness. Snow has arrived, vanished, and it will return again. Until then, things are a bit drab and overcast, but the start of the season was nicely temperate and deliciously garish. This is a simple snapshot of that season: one of the few that I’ve managed to capture. I took this shot on Corey’s balcony, looking across the street, in the direction of sunset. I liked this single splash of red, the remainder of neighborhood greenery, and the warmth lingering in the air, as if winter was a lot farther away than it was. I took this photo, while basking in a good, end-of-season mood, and as I’ve been away from online life in a while, I decided to post here, as both a desire to post and a sign that I’m still around and doing stuff. I hope to catch up as time permits, but at the moment, time has decided to do other things. I can’t tell if I’m busy or if time itself is very busy. At any rate, there’s a whole lot of…um…something going on.
As always, thank you for viewing, reading, and commenting, and I hope you’re all having a great week.

Ooh, I love that splash of red, I am once again reminded of a phrase I used ages ago: like slow-motion fireworks. Beautiful!
Fantastic Red! A great ending for autumn!
fantastic capture and great description
How often does the dénoument involve setting the trees on fire. A very striking image. As always, the writing is superb.
A splendid idea, to think of that. Autumn is the beginning of the gardeners' calendar and I am already encouraged by the magnolia buds starting growth. So nature's denouement is a little like the last episode of an extremely successful serial play: it may be the end but every character is set up ready for the next series .
Very strong winds here the last few days have hastened the dénoument of autumn, deposited huge amounts of colorful leaves all over the ground & left many trees very bare. A little sad in a way, but part of the natural cycle of seasons & it's reassuring that it will repeat itself (in some variation or other) year after year...
Superb capture my friend. God Bless.
Certainly a "stand out" tree in the Fall. Nice shot.
burning bush syndrome, lovely standout shot
A very lovely capture, Chip and May your winter be milder than last winter :-) Hope the things you are busy with are all good things :)
It's a lovely season-ender; can't wait to see the next installment!
A most beautiful splash of color and light!
beautiful image
FANTASTIC LIGHT!
Alas, the party is all but over on my side of the Great Lakes. Our autumn flourish came to an end about a month ago. Now bare trees sport those new fangled electroluminescent gems we name LEDs. A strange kind of foliage, but a last defiant holler of colour before we all fall into the greys and whites of deep winter. I love the light captured on the leaves. It looks like the tree is struggling to scrape the upper reaches for the last smatterings of summer light. Much like the LEDs this tree look lit up for the season. Oh, if only the leaves glowed like this through the night that would be something to behold. Excellent shot.
My favorite John Lennon quote: Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans. Sounds like you've got caught up in it! I hope it's good stuff. :) The light makes the tree look like it's on fire. A cliche, to be sure, but in this case it's apt. Beautiful!
Gorgeous autumn colors in this capture Chip and I like Tara’s John Lennon quote!
