Description
Colletes hedera. They are all over the ivy flowers when it's sunny.
"Colletes hederae was recorded as new to Britain in 2001 when Ian Cross discovered specimens at Langton Matravers in Dorset. Since then, the bee has spread across much of southern England and into south Wales, and is now extremely plentiful in some coastal localities, and increasingly, inland." info from BWARS
This colony is on the cliff at Alum Chine where the insects can burrow easily into the sand if the cliffs.

This macro shot is wonderful Andrea, but I like the group shot even better. Obviously a popular spot to stop.
Now that is one scary looking creature! Larger than life, my Friend! The magnificence with which you
ve captured him sitting on these flowers is really special! Im in total awe at the clarity, lighting and focus! Marvelous work, dear Andrea! May you have a fabulous week ahead!Wow what a wonderful shot of this busy fellow. Fantastic colors and lighting. The group shot is totally amazing with so many gathering in one place. Thanks for sharing the interesting information Andrea.
Wow! It's thorax looks like an orange fur ball! New to me so thanks for the info and a cracking macro shot! It will be a while before they get upto us in Lincolnshire I suspect. I will look out though on my Ivy plants.
great details, colors and lighting, very nice capture
Perfect Capture
Superb!!!
Gorgeous busy bee and surroundings.
Nice work! I don't believe I've seen this species before. TFS
Thanks for the interesting info, Andrea. And this is a very special shot! btw: Today I saw an albino bee. In any case, the insect was totally bright white. I've never seen such a thing. I followed him with my camera, but could not take a picture, unfortunately. It flew into the flowers of the Policeman's helmet.
Capital clarity, composition and lighting in this fine macro of the busy bee, Andrea. Never heard of that particular species before, which should come as no surprise, and interesting about the sand.
From your flicker image it appears they are serious party animals. This is an excellent photo. I like how its wings are carefully folded and there is little pollen on its legs. Very neat. Since they have taken hold so well, I hope they are beneficial.
Lovely sharp macro ,I think these are the same as some I shot last week I will have to check.
Great shot in the bright sun!
EXCELLENT IMAGE!
Lavish lighting and spectacular details!
This is a fantastic photo and zoom Andrea - that is a large group over on the FlickeR site!
