Description
The banks of the Hau Giang River (Bassac River) in Chau Doc are lined with floating houses.
These houses, whose floats consist of empty metal drums, provide both a place to live and a livelihood for their residents. Under each house, fish are raised in suspended metal nets: the fish flourish in their natural river habitat, the family can feed them whatever scraps of biological matter it has handy, and catching the fish does not require all the exertions of fishing.
Being on floats allows these houses to rise and sink with the fluctuating water level of the river, caused by monsoon rains along its course.

GREAT INFO THEY LOOK VERY SMART!
now this is houseboats. cool
What an interesting neighborhood! And a wonderful shot.
Wow, what a hot and humid way to live. Fantastic shot.
I can imagine how the rain must sound on those metal roofs. I bet in a downpour you can't hear yourself think! Still, it seems like a nice way to live. No worries about flooding, and if the water moves at any kind of a clip at all, the mosquitoes wouldn't be a big problem. You've provided me with interesting food for thought once again, my friend! :)
first i was thinking (like an asshole and considered the water as dirty). now after reading that they keep the fish there i can say clean habitat in a way otherwise the fish would not be there. or maybe they are dirty fish??lol.
Ein toller Schnappschuss Siggi, aber wenn man sich vorstellt, dass in diesen Hütten auch noch Menschen wohnen müssen, ist es weniger toll!
Awesome capture.
Cool capture and history, Sig. Must be a lot of noise when it rains.+5
Shining shot.
Nice capture Sig
A wonderful capture that shows how we as humans adopt to our environment!! Very thought provoking capture Sig!!
It is very nice . I thank you for it. 5+!
A totally different world from ours! Interesting image! :)
A wonderful perspective with the land based homes in the background. Those corrugated metal ‘homes’ must be extremely hot during the summer – especially with the lack of windows!
I can imagine just how polluted the fish are. did you avoid the fish while there? very interesting subject
I really like the notes to your images :)
