Description
As we headed for Santa Cruz around midday a couple of weeks ago, we could see nothing but fog ahead & were resigned to a bleak day. But around two o'clock, it lifted, the sun came out & the rest of the day was magnificent. I shot this later in the afternoon, right towards the sun which was reflected in silver on the water. The radiating sunbeams appeared on their own & I added the lens flare (which I don't use very often). I thought it enhanced the image in this case, but I realize some may consider it too over the top...

I like the flare, as well. It gives the image continuity and provides a bridge between land and sky. Over the top? My friend, nobody does OTT like you do. You push the limits of postwork, of color, of effect, and the results are unfailingly superb. You walk that line so beautifully! So yeah ... it's a little over the top ... but in the absolute best way possible! I wouldn't change a thing.
I like the flare, I noticed it right away because you don't see it that often. You really nailed the vibrancy on this one as you so often do and it has beautifully done leading lines along the wave and shore.
I love it; that morning fog/cloud afternoon sun thing is a hallmark of the California coastline, that's what I lived with through all my teenage summers. We'd go to the beach and lie out on our towels trusting that the sun would come eventually! Of course now I'd rather have the clouds, but that's just me. This shot is absolutely gorgeous, I wouldn't change anything about it; the colours, the light, the details in the iceplant...wonderful!
