Description
The Tobie Norris in Stamford.
The building dates from 1280, and opened as a pub in December 2006.
One of the 'must see' places that Rob showed me when I was there.

Looks one cosy environment.
I figure if a place was built in the 1200s, it should be a pub; there's something intrinsically right about being able to have a drink or food in such a place with friends. I always imagine the sorts of conversations such a place would inspire, and I love that they were essentially built by hand...I mean, back in the 1200s, Earth-moving and wall building technology involved a strong back and two well-calloused hands! The mood here is wonderful. I love the lighting and the dominance of warm color. I love pubs like these and its even better if they're way down in a cellar with natural climate control (body heat in winter and stone-created coolness in summer! The funny thing about that is that the temperature never really changes; it stays constant, but OUTSIDE is what gets hot and cold.) This is brilliant!

Yep! This is an old abode! But, not the oldest in Stamford! lol By FAR the oldest Pub, it is a very popular award winning pub with great beer that changes without warning as soon as the barrel runs out.. Then the next WEIRDLY names one is on...and they have several at one! And I'm sure Larger is not served if memory serves me... lol Great shot Clive! Rob

Not only a must-see-place I think - a must-taste-and-stay-for-a-while-place too :) I wonder why the tables are this small, I always thought pubs only need some big round tables.
