Description
Keanakako’i pit crater was a very deep crater when surveyed in 1866. Early Hawaiians collected hard, very fine-grained and glassy basalt from the deep crater to make sharp cutting tools (knives, adzes, and spear points), but lava erupted in 1877 from a vent within the crater buried the quarry site. Its last eruption was in July 09, 1974 as an eruptive fissure opened at the base of the southwest wall.

I think anyone living by old or existing volcanos are living on the edge - lol.... the world is so huge, you'd think if a volcano decided to burp it could spit it out for miles and if it rained lava on you - HOLEY CRAP! and it would be HOLEY CRAP when they found you = lol
