Description
This render of my Sunship or Cosmic Butterfly was done by my friend "Pernik". Io textures by Bjorn Jonsson.
The 'Cosmic Butterfly" of Sunship was a serious design from the 1950's for an ion engine spacecraft by Ernst Stuhlinger, very low thrust but VERY efficient and the engines run for years.
The dishes use sunlight to power boilers which provide electricity for the Ion Engines.

Outstanding sci-fi rendering, awesome ship and scene!!
Very interesting write up and beautiful render
I like this concept of a sunship ! Seems to be up to date right now... and of course I do like this highly realistic image ! Excellent !
Very nice.
Nicely balanced composition; I like the color contrast between the ion engine exhaust and the looming presence of Jupiter.
