I really like the proportions and the spare, no-frills architecture of coastal artillery emplacements. That, and the fact that they're all at the beach. Then there's the fun twisty ending ... they were decommissioned without ever having fired a shot at an enemy. All in all, a fun place to hang out!

A great piece of unused history Tara. Health and Safety would have either kept everyone out or put railings up everywhere if it was in this country!!

Excellent composition - I like the sweeping curve, the textures on the walls & the trees & the ocean are a nice bonus that make it special...
One huge battery... gotta be at least a 9-volt one. LOL I've been able to experience a couple - one in San Francisco area and one in Galveston. Pretty much the same thing... never utilized for anything more than lookouts. And nothing was every seen. Love the wide view here. Bet it would be interesting in a storm too.

Well this certainly gives you an idea of the size of the place and....the extent of the coverage this particular gun would of had in its range... Others would have covered different areas.. Often with inter-locking cover fire.. (Still with me Tara! lol ;-)..) Well taken! Rob

Superb POV and "war" atmosphere
I love the way this makes me think of a ball court used by the Aztecs. I think it's the spareness and that bowl shape dominating it. Great curvies and lines and textures and the light is wonderful. This is one of those shots that inspires me to want to write!
