I wanted to do something special for this occasion and started with this project which have been in my thoughts for a very long time.
"I love Maria (1988)" (also called "Roboforce") was directed in Hongkong by Hark Tsui & David Sung. The movie must be regarded as a
comedy action, not with a very sophisticated plot, but some like it others don't but all love Sally Yeh as the title character Maria.
In all the "plot's" sillyness she binds the movie together with her character, played by charm, humor and develop slowly from machine into a person.
The movie "steals" from both Fritz Lang's "Metropolis", "Robocop" and even "Frankenstein" to mention some. Sally Yeh also play the top gangsters crazy sister from who Maria is coppied.
In the movie Maria appears in two versions - first as black armored when "bad" and later more humanized, in white armor. But I prefer the black version of her, here with a raincoat, probably a (very poorly) disguise when she is ordered to kill a renegade alcoholic gangster, named Whisky.
The other main character is a nerded police technician, called Curly who befriends Whisky after a bar fight.
After some vey unlikely incidents they get the killer robot, Maria, on their side.
About the render - all here are in 3D except the texts. I worked much with the lights, my own setting as almost always. I do light as when I worked with movie and video's I have done, then I feel more in control of the process. Stonemasons Future City is great to work with - never problems in renders!
Maria's hair here are a "composit" of two different hairs mixed together to get what I wanted. The face is my morph with "Eastern Girl", not excactly like Sally Yeh - it would need a lot more effort and time - but I am satisfied with her look and hope you like her too.
Last - I have a final image in the unfortunate little "Damsell In Distress Rescue Team" story - in work and then I will look at Miwa and Pippins explorations again.

Thank you so much for the special July Birthday render Johnny. Love all the textures and the lighting is wonderful. Love your sign on the side of the building. Beautiful Image! I'm actually a big fan of the movie and it's impressive how your render resembles exactly like Maria in the movie. Who knows, maybe render the second version of her fully in chrome if you have the time.
