It is so strange to see a furry buffalo! Our Cape Buffalo has no hair. Excellent close-up and a critter I wouldn't want to mess with. The wildlife experts in Africa recons that out of our Big 5 (Lion, Leopard, Buffalo, Rhino, Elephant) the Buffalo is the most dangerous because of its unpredictability!

What an amazing shot, and it amuses me that two South Africans have commented before me--one of whom has an amusing story to tell about gate-crashing hyenas, and a rather miffed elephant with a tendency to fib--or at least to pretend to be eating while determining the best angle from which he should charge. As a result of that, I find it quite amusing to see something as odd as I'd expect to see in South Africa (a land where giraffes aren't at all uncommon, despite the fact that they're NOT common enough to simply walk down streets!) As a Chicagoan, if it's not a cat, a dog, a rat, or a vermin insect, a city-bird, or a squirrel, it classifies as an alien animal, and what is more alien than a buffalo? These things look mythical, or at least prehistoric, and you've captured this one so amazingly well! What details and the sense of intimacy is profound. This is a marvelous shot.

You've brought the animal alive for me. I can feel the hot, moist breath coming from his nostrils, smell the musty earthiness of his wooly hide, the odor of pinched dung from the bottoms of his hooves... this is a calm, yet exciting shot.

Strong yet thoughtful image of this wonderful creature! You know my affinity for these beasts having grown up with them around exactly where you found them~ The magical Wichita Mountains and particularly Mt.Scott which the Native Americans considered the spiritual home of the buffalo.
