Description
This is a African Penguin aka Jackass Penguin. Here are some interesting facts from Wikipedia:
The African Penguin (Spheniscus demersus) is a species of penguin confined to southern African waters. African Penguins grow to 68–70 cm (26.7–27.5 in) tall and weigh between 2 and 5 kg (4.4 and 11 lb). They have a black stripe and black spots on the chest, the pattern of spots being unique for every penguin, like human fingerprints. They have pink glands above their eyes, which are used for thermoregulation. The hotter the penguin gets, the more blood is sent to these glands so it may be cooled by the surrounding air, thus making the glands more pink.
Two colonies were established by penguins in the 1980s on the mainland near Cape Town, namely Boulders Beach near Simon's Town and Stony Point in Betty's Bay.
I have captured this at the Boulders Beach near Simon's Town. They are spectacular creatures and so funny to watch.
Thanks for your visit and for your very welcome comments and fav on my last upload "For my Friend".

A very lovely capture of these endearingly funny birds Carin.
Thanks for the info and the great shot.
Excellent info worth the reading-I have never seen these before so your image has educated me once more-never to old to learn.
OJJ! They looks really cute, Carin. We dont often see penguins in RR :-)
Is he tap-dancing, or what? ;-). Such a cute fellows, Carin. I love that pink around the eyes. They look so content and peacefully, and this is a superb shot, my friend.
Very beautiful capture , Carin !
Delightful
I was at the Georgia Aquarium and they had African Penguins and I thought at first oh I never thought there would be penguins there lol. I guess when I think of Africa I think of big cats and tall giraffes and large elephants. They were fun to watch though. Nice capture.
I can watch them for hours Carin. Superb capture. God Bless.
Wonderful capture and info! :)
GORGEOUS SHOT
Very cool photo and information Carin
Good composition and stark contrast in this black and white image of the unfortunately named Jackass Penguins, Carin. I don't know what the situation is in your case, but I would have to pay big money at a nature center or aquarium to see something similar.
Great shot!
Great shot Carin. Wonderful to have captured this the wild.
Now what on earth did he ever do to you to deserve you calling this little guy a jackass? LOL! :P "My jackass ex-husband," I can certainly see. But a "jackass penguin?" I know, I know, but I couldn't resist. It IS a strange name! Terrific capture, Dierbaar. Jy is wonderlik!
Aren't they wonderful? I just love penguins of all types...unfortunately the zoo here hasn't got a very photographer-friendly habitat exhibit. Excellent capture!!
I love the smilie face on the one laid down, lovely pic!! xx
They are a hoot to watch!
I believe that they have that name because of the sounds that they make that sounds similar to a jackass.A very nice photo.
Oh look! it's Happy Feet III. ;D Wonderful capture of these cute penguins! :)
Wonderful capture!
I seem to recall seeing a movie about these guys a while back. Or maybe it was a documentary but it was kind of humorous
