Description
After months of commuter and shopper disruption, work is nearing completing on the Canford Bottom Roundabout. What was a simple roundabout with 5 approaches is turning into a major junction with 72, yes SEVENTY TWO sets of traffic lights.
This is supposed to aid the traffic flow during the Olympics. The nearest events are 40 miles West and London over 100 miles away. Other areas nearer the events have also had makeovers, but no one in this area either voted for or wanted these alterations.
What time saving benifits have been acheived when they switch on, only time will tell, but no one is expecting much. Normally, especially in this area, queuing times have increased when they have added traffic lights to roundabouts. Hey ho.

A vivid pic of the coming possible nightmare.
Interesting dilemma. Here they are called traffic circles which worked well in their early years, but with an expanding population, many of which cannot speak or read a word of English, our traffic circles have become accident sites simply because people will not learn the rules. Most young people typically do not understand how to use traffic circles. So now they are adding traffic lights to many of them, while still maintaining the circle concept. Now they have all the disadvantages of lights and none of the advantages of circles. And the signage for turning lanes also became more difficult and expensive. Good luck with this!
Dont you just love to see all the roadworks causing disruption whilst there are no workmen around at all?!? Great capture!
