Description
With astronauts in EVA thrusters suits overseeing the operation the first of the four spine units is moved toward it docking location on the outer hull of the Lower Rotational Module of the MMS-1 spacecraft.
Whilst they may not look it the four spine sections which will link the Lower and Upper Rotational Modules of the MMS-1 spacecraft are far more complex than they appear at first glance. At just over fifty feet in length and with a cross sectional area of ten feet by ten feet the four units designated Alpha, Bravo, Charlie and Delta Spines will not only provide the main backbone from the MMS-1 spacecraft they have been specifically designed for far more complex uses as well.
As each unit is hollow and has an airlock at either end the four spines sections will be accessible from either the Lower or Upper Rotational Modules of the MMS-1. The space within the spines has been kitted out for mission supply storage, additional crew recreational facilities, mechanical and engineering workshops, laboratory, medical and computer facilities as well as hard-point external lock-on’s so that various additional modules can be linked to the outer surfaces of the four spine modules.
