Hey! Recently Harry (goodoleboy) posted some shots of pre & post-storm clouds. I found them beautiful. But I told him that in Chicago, pre-storm clouds look like they're about to devour half of the freakin' earth. Soooooo...here's a shot of winter, Lake Michigan, with a doozy of a storm brewing'. Juuuuuuuust a little to the East, folks... Harry, you can see why I don't shoot too many of these. My reasons? 1) I wish to stay alive; 2) my camera wishes to stay alive; and 3) I look at these and think: "Now why would anyone be out here at 6 in the morning, just to get a photograph???" Tell me: What's with photographers??? Do you inherit a gene, once you pick up a camera, that says: "Oh yeah: See that impossible thing over there? Go there, get reeeeeealllllly close, risk your life, be sure you can't stand up for 3 days after, and photograph it." Harry knows what I'm talking about. I was happy as a painter. What happened to me... Btw, it's not the best shot---but 20 minutes later all hell broke loose so you gotta cut me some slack...

Goodness me! I should be INSIDE at this point! Those are some clouds..we don't often see them that nasty in my town. A real cracker..well it certainly became one shortly! Thankyou for the amazing comments you just spent so long on..It took me nearly as long to read them, they are such fun!
It's been so long since i've been on here that it was a very nice surprise that first thing i see is a mark shot! LOL, I love your narratives about this LAKE. What an ominous, scary, really, truly ugly sky. But I'd be right next to you, snapping away, probably getting caught in that storm. And loving every moment, especially when I saw the fotos. My ocean has nothing on your lake--they both brew up some pretty powerful stuff!! GREAT shot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Yup ... nothin' like that out here! I would show you a pre-storm shot, but I don't have any. LOL! All you'd see is cold, gray clouds and dull, flat light. Nothing to see here, folks. Move along. THIS is fabulous, though! What amazing colors, and the light ... wow. I assume that's the sun peeking through? Sun, right? I'm never sure about that, since we don't generally see it. :P Outstanding image!

This is such a wonderful capture Mark, really inspirational view for certain. I got a big chuckle out of your thoughts on why you don't get more captures like this one, and your point was well made although the final results here make it all worth while. The more I study it, the more beautiful details come forth. Brilliant capture that made my day
Apocalypse Now! Superb nighttime-looking portrait of the ominous approaching storm, Mark. The sky above is fantastic, and love the strip of light reflections punctuating the Lake below, revealing lovely textures in the water. You were brave to venture out into no man's land, uncertain of your fate at the hands of an amoral and capricious act of nature. And, thank you for the PR in re my involvement into the realm of cloud fotos, although judging by the comments above, it was mostly ignored by your viewers. So much for notoriety.
An amazing shot of this sky before the storm broke. I love how that last little bit of sun is coming through that little hole but having a such a huge fantastic result on the water. The sky is really black and threatening and I hope you managed to get back home before you got drenched. It was well worth getting up for and I am so glad that you braved the elements. Thank you so much for sharing.

This photo took my breath away! It's absolutely stunning. I am an avid cloud watcher and these are by far the best I have seen in photos, love the light play thru them and on the water. Your description of them devouring the earth made me laugh:-) I see them as a comforter covering and protecting the earth for who knows what awful thing above them is trying to make its way to land fall? I haven't been able to be online much so I apologize for not thanking you for your most awesome comment (as usual) and favoriteing my birthday image for you.
