After months of trying to re-take the SDF-1 from its new Earthly owners, and after months of failing so miserably the Alien Zentraedi have come to the sad realization that the huge battle-fortress is never going to be theirs to own once again. For one of the alien commanders the shame of defeat is too much to bear and in a fit of complete madness he sets his huge cruiser on a course which will smash it right into the very heart of the SDF-1’s interior. In the huge explosion which follows the alien cruiser is totally destroyed and the SDF-1 so gutted from stem to stern that it will never again be able to take the skies to defend Earth. Authors Notes Not the ending I am sure some of you who are looking at this picture and reading its narrative were expecting. In ending the story in this way I have tried to remain true to the original anime I watched so many years before on VHS tape and now have had the pleasure of being able to watch once again on DVD. In the anime the SDF-1 and its command crew along with many hundreds of others are killed, but those that survive the explosion go on to the form the core group for the next series of Robotech/Macross adventures in Super Dimensional Cavalry Southern Cross along with all the other series and movies which have followed since then.
