Look! It's a bug! Well, more specifically it's a yellowjacket. (I checked Chip's gallery to be sure.)
Okay, I know it's not the most perfect, clear, amazing shot, but I got it! You think that's not a big deal? Listen. I've been doing this photography thing for five years. I've taken enough flower pictures to float a battleship. Do you think I ever got a picture of a bug on a flower? No, I did not. They fly around. They move a lot. They see me coming and they start making reservations for a holiday in Spain.
I got this at full zoom from about three yards away. I'm sure if the creature had known I had a camera, it would have been off like a rocket!
Zoom is good. It's bigger in zoom.

Judging from this shot, I'd imagine you had a bottle of Snapple peach tea around, or even a can of Arizona "Sweet Tea" which is actually less sweet than the other teas out there. Go figure. Yellow jackets love that stuff, and I absolutely adore this photo. What a wonderfully composed shot. (Aren't yellow jackets fun when they're compositionally-astute?) This one seems like a young one, too...maybe a queen hatched late last year or an early season daughter? You can tell by her abdomen. She's got that svelte, young-yellowjacket look. I'm so proud of this shot. I'm doing my little "I saw a yellowjacket" dance, and I'm glad that they aren't relegated to truck yards I no longer visit. This is so incredibly well done. You make quite the insect photographer, and since you're not in the Midwest, I'm sure that you've got some wonderful PNW insects to capture! This rocks!

Congratulations - very crisp, clear shot & it looks great on that bright yellow petal. These are good creatures to shoot at a distance - getting stung by them is not fun...
Woot! I've never been able to get that good of a macro myself, so I'm very impressed. I love the black and yellow insect against the yellow flower, too.
