Mountaintops
Clouds lining up
Nothing on the ground

Interstate
Seventy-five miles per hour
Towns go by
Cows and barns
Lake trees pastureland hills
Interrupted by passing trucks
And it's still "other"
Country back road
Nobody around
Feel the air
Stop anywhere
Slower pace
Small towns
Linger in memory
Walk the shoulder
Smell everything
Crops are thigh high
Head high
Dirt after rain
Wheat in dry air
Experience is immediate
Stop someplace
Rent a room
Get a job
Start a life
Slow it down
Until it's no longer travel
