It is now being converted into an industrial Estate, but many of the original buildings are still standing and awaiting their fate.
Admiralty Park comprises part of the former Royal Naval Cordite Factory, Holton Heath, originally a square mile site constructed in 1915 on the specific orders of Winston Churchill, the then First Lord of the Admiralty. The primary reason for its’ construction was to ensure the Royal Navy obtained a significant quantity of finest quality cordite, this being the primary ingredient for the propellant of ordnance.

Do you know mate, these old buildings would be preserved over here and never destroyed for factories. Once they are gone they are gone. Then again your country has a million more much older buildings to choose from than we do, so I guess we have to look after the ones we have!
I like this VERY much! Such a sense of history, not to mention it's a veritable banquet of textures!
excellent.
My Grandma's friend Tom Holt, a travelling salesman and inventor, but also a keen photographer, was arrested while taking pics through through the railings here! I'm not sure what year, but probably in the thirties.
Wonderful image. Very nice work!
Interesting color photograph!
great capture
Hmmm, a little paint here and there, replace a window, and it already smells like cordite...
You have made an important and beautiful registry of these old buildings! Congrats!
Gloomy weather. A great bit of history, Clive
