Description
Every time I visit Pololu Valley, I see it a little different. Maybe it’s the clouds, the time of the day or the volcanic VOG that changes everything. Anyways, when we got back to the top, we over heard this lady tourist talking to these guys that she could see the whales playing in the water, splashing around. Everyone seemed excited and enjoying watching what they thought was whales.....after all, it is whale season here in Hawaii. So I turned to my hiking partner and said, hey, that’s the reef we saw (on the left). Sorry, I had to contain myself. Well, at least they had a whale of a story. Aloha and thank you for viewing...

Wow Errol they are some SERIOUS cliffs. I can see a couple of small whales in the foreground.....they are on thrusters! Thanks for posting this mate.

Beautiful view Errrol. I like that whale stry - good for her. I have only flown along this coast (northeast side of the Big Island - am I right). We also saw whales one time in 1975 off the northern tip of Oahu, and I am pretty sure they where wales, we saw the spouts, but who knows. Great capture, Sig..

That's so funny Errol! Anyway, they will one day see a real one and enjoy it even more. I have seen whales many times off the Canadian coast, but never in Hawaii despite many trips, but I do refuse to patronize the whale tour boats both there and in Canada. On the other hand, I have been spectacularly lucky in seeing many turtles at sea around Hawaii. I love your shot, particularly those steep slopes that clearly are covered in vegetation right down to the water!

The verticle-growing greenery in your images is amazing. Love the broad scope of this image - it's huge! Funny whale story... you'd think she'd wonder why they never moved from one spot... lol

if this place seems like it changes a lot, you should pick out a few spots and every time you go there take the same shot and go back and see what's happening - would be cool to see like 5 years worth of photos through the years. Peaceful shot... I see the whale nibbling on some reef - lol
