Description
The idea behind this piece was to highlight the distances that may exist between each other, either on one or both sides. In this case a mother and daughter, the mother having invested in raising the daughter to adulthood in a loving and unconditional enviroment yet the daughter remains indifferent towards the mother year after year with no justification but from her own actions and attitude to need somebody to blame right up until the mothers death.
I depict the two together and whilst there was no vindictiveness there was a division on the daughters side and so the question is asked "Friend or Family" implying that family members should care and have a closer bond towards each others than even close friends. I have twisted and distorted to depict how the daughter has not only created herself as this inner demon but also demonized her own mothers inner beauty into her vision of how she wants her to be because it allows her to look in the mirror each morning and feel she can still seem attractive if somebody else is the same as her.... It's not and it never will be the case.

Love the colours and the themes, the psychopathology of everyday life!
Beautiful colors and abstract... needs better frame IMHO!
I find if you keep the frames simple it does to detract from the work, we often find in galleries where the frame is too powerful and the work can be lost when too ornate so i always keep it generic and simple.
