Description
This Gambel's Quail (Callipepla gambelii) was hanging out on a dead branch in the Lost Dutchman State Park in the Superstition Mountains, Arizona, USA. As you can see, he has his mouth open. He would call, and then I would answer, and he would answer me, and I would answer him back, and so it went for many minutes. I got tired of the game first.

Yeah, they can be pretty 'dogged' about the calling, but it did get you a great shot. I'm glad you took the time to talk to him!
Nice shot! I didn't know about the calling. I've only seen one and that was on a high hill overlooking Albuquerque, NM.
Lil Dandy of the Desert. Love to hear them at dusk, soothing.
Your gallery of birds from Arizona is a fantastic delight, dear Pat ! Thanks for sharing all these excellent shots ! :~)
A wonderful experience and nice shot.
Wonderful a treat to see your wildlife
Wonderful photo my friend....!!!
Excellent capture.
I love the Gambel quail. They are comical to watch when driving trails in the desert. How silly they look running alone in front of the truck as if they think they can out-distance the vehicle. Excellent shot.
