Description
I guess this one's for all those hard-working, high-achieving farm kids who grew up learning that life had more to do with hard work than with having special rights. Not to say that there aren't some city kids who haven't come up the hard way and done well. But the rural life is a demanding life, even from an early age. You get out of life no more and no less than what you put into it.
Here we have a farmer-rancher with his two kids out hauling in bales of hay. This is back when the bales were people-sized; not those round monstrosities that we have today. There weren't any specialized machines to pick them up and stack them on the hay wagon. People had to do it. Sometimes, they were your kids or some of the neighbours and their kids.
Their Jack Russell Terrier is up on top because she likes to ride on anything she can--pickup, wagon, whatever. The boy picked her up and set her on the hay wagon. The terrier jump on up the bales to the top. Now, she's spied a cottontail speeding away from them and is yelping her fool head off. The kids are enjoying the spectacle, but Dad is strictly paying attention to where they are going--being conscious of that precious load that he is hauling--and its not just the hay.
The terrain is actually created from a DEM of south central Kansas. I suspect around Gypsum Hills area of the state. Probably should have added some Cottonwood Trees trailing up the ravines, but was afraid I'd run out of memory if I did.
Anyway, thanks for stopping by and taking a look. Hope you'll zoom in on this one. Lots of little details to see. Thank you, too, for all your past and present encouragements. All are appreciated; especially those of you who have added some of my posts to your Favorites List.
Til next time,
Jeremy

Very good scene and narrative! I've bucked a few bales in my day. So I know what they are going through. Good lighting and setting, Jeremy!
