Description
The Iguana is a herbivorous genus of lizard native to tropical areas of Central America, China and the Caribbean. This is the Green Iguana, which is widespread throughout its range and a popular pet. This one popped up on our back yard. S/he was about 18 inches (45 cm) long and you can see how far the tail curls around to the left. Many of the snakes and lizards that are commonly found in south Florida were once family pets that got too big to handle in the home. So they just let them go in the back yard and they have flourished. I know that it is poor contrast. I got to close and he jumped into the lake and swam off. Zoom works well.
Thanks for stopping by my gallery, taking a look and for all your previous favs and comments. They are very much appreciated.

i saw on tv that there a bad boy lizard in Fl. that if you try to caught it it can and had bite off a part of the finger ever the bone was bit away. it from Africa even it use it tail that will hurt you. so be careful. this is a wonderful image of this lizard
Nice pic! He is well camouflaged in that grass.
Great camouflage and I wish my grass was that short.
Great that they are flourishing. The same pett-dumping happens here and they suffer and then perish unless they are found quickly. An exciting thing to find on the lawn..beats my 6 inch slugs!
Beautiful creature, but I am glad I don't have them in my garden! Hugs for all day, Dear Dana. Di. xx

Difficult to see :))
WOW - I nearly overlooked this magnificent specimen! I hope nobody steps on them, accidentily? all I can say is this, what a perfect camouflage! Great catch Dana, BB
Great capture. I've always been fond of Iguanas, especially since they do tend to look a wee bit prehistoric and nicely predatory, even though they aren't. Unless you're a tasty cricket or something. I can't tell if this is a male or a female, but keep an eye on those big, round scale patches on either side of the lower jaw: they're easy male-markers when it's time for seasonal displays of whatever needs to be displayed in terms of mating advertisements. I really like the sharp, reptilian details and the softer, grassy background...the focus is right where is should be, on that really intriguing reptile face...I love the apparent still ness of this critter, though I also know how fast these critters can run. This is a super shot and it's nice to know that dumped pets actually survive, become wild and do rather well in Florida. Well...some of them.
fantastic picture!!!!!
Very well camouflaged! Excellent capture! :o)
