Description
On doing my usual early morning rounds through the little Rain-forest section of our garden, I am in the habit of picking up fallen tree branches and twigs and sticks - oh, HELLO - this was no stick! what the ... ?
It pays to take the little ol' Fuji for a walk as well, just in case ... and this was a CASE!
I nearly grabbed this stick insect and almost threw him away - hold that! - and just in time, when I spotted his eye's glaring at me!
My oh my, this critter, I am not kidding you - was at least the size of a ruler (30cm long) maybe even a bit longer, more like 40cm! and hardly moving at all, he was probably the Grandfather of all Stick Insects.
We had a good old chat and I asked him if he would model for me? 'no problemo' - he nodded and I added, that I particularly liked those cute little wings of his. ~ZOOM for details~

(Methinks, if Chip could only see him, he would have fallen in love with this insect, trust me! I know I did and went back several times throughout the day to check on him.)
In the hope, that you might like him too, I christened him 'Slim Pickens' ... but this was no Rodeo performer - too slow!
Cheers Brigitte

Great Surprise! Yes I see them here sometimes.
I had acouple of them living in my garden once. They are funny, slow and very stiff, as waiters in an elegant restaurant.LOL Excellents captures
Great capture I zoomed in...what a find I uploaded a new one tonight too Hope you drop by Hugs Susan~
Fantastic capture!!!
Totally off the wall for me!
Excellent captures.
perfect camouflaged !! great collage of this too :)
ENORMOUS! what a find..good thing you weren't pruning! I once kept some Australian stick insects which I don't think were this species. They were Extatosoma tiaratum, the Giant Spiny stick insect, and they can grow to about 15cms although mine didn't. Anyway they were called Joss, Evo, Joy and Un.
Great find and an impressive size!! :)
Wooooooooooooooow! How could you tell?
The wing are like a dinner jacket or a vest. It is probably female (larger than male) and is at the top of the size list. great picture as always. You live in a great area I am jealous.
Here in the States Belly Up usually means deceased so I was expecting something more tragic. Still having trouble telling where she ends and the tree begins. Outstanding find and pictures. The wings don't look as if they could lift her. Perhaps she was just dressed up and pretending to be a fairy princess?
aber hallo, how very intersting thing and picture!! you are living in a impressive side of this world;)
Mr Stick looks more like a stick, than a stick ! Glad you didn't chuck him out with the other ones, cause now we have our own Tourist attraction...LOL ! Kool spotting and collage BB ! ~Cheers~
Great find and awesome collage. Awesome story,so glad to see it was a happy ending. My golly he sure can camouflage amongest his surroundings. Thanks for sharing.
Wow, great find and capture!!
WOW! That is an awesome capture. How did you ever find it. Dana
Great capture of this guy "sticking around" in your garden, Brigitte! Maybe it is difficult for him too, to know what are sticks and what are his own legs! ;o)
What superb cammoflage he has and he certainly sounds to be a big one. We have them here too, though I haven't seen one as big as this one. What great wings he has and your captures let me see all his details. I'm glad he didn't mind his picture being taken. I'm sorry your rugby team had a bad night last night but I am glad we have made the finals with all the hoopla and expense. I will be glad when it is over next week. Your Julia has to eat one of our apples, and say how good it tastes. lol.
Great find and capture. Never seen one of these before!
Oh my, I could barely make him out either. In fact, if you hadn't said what the shot was I probably would have wondered why you shot that stick. LOL. What a wonderful disguise. I've never seen one this big. Yikes! Wonderful find.
What an amazing creature! It looks like he has two pairs of totally ineffectual wings. Maybe he uses them like eyelashes and bats them provocatively at any young thing that passes by. Excellent captures!
Incredible animals !!!!
