First of all, this is a very large image so please zoom in.... I have been wanting to model one of the turn of the century Americas Cup ships for some time. I'm finally starting off with the 1903 British loser, Shamrock III, the last of the largest to ever run the race. My main focus is to capture the details of such a vessel, the size yet gracefulness in the open sea. 135 ft long, weighing 166 tons, she had a crew of 56. Without all the detail of the actual ship, one can not fully appreciate her size. Most models end at this point with addition of a few ropes and cables. Over the next 7 days I hope to go beyond that providing Vue users with both wonderful distance composition material as well as a challenging close up where the crew can be posed.
