Description
Euptilon ornatum. Southern Arizona, USA.
I found this little creature on the wall last night. We sometimes have a few of them flying around. They're only about 2 inches long. They're so active you can't get a good look at them unless you take a picture, which I did. They're amazing! There's no way I can ever accept the idea this design came about by sheer accident.
"Tomorrow" I'll post a photo of the complete little guy.

What an amazing creature! I love the designs, the colors, the veined wings. As I happen to adore insects and various other small things, I've already formed a deep appreciation for images like this. And those antennae are simply impressive and so well captured! Insects have the most amazing fashion sense, don't you think? They're always so wonderfully coordinated and on top of that, efficient! This is a marvel of a photo! Excellently done.
Oh, so that's what happens to those things - they grow up and fly away. I haven't seen an ant-lion larva funnel since I was a kid. We used to push ants into them and watch them disappear. I always wondered where it got off to. Now I know! Great picture, Pat.
