Description
I dedicate this upload to my brother Wolfgang (billcody) who is a railroad fan.
This steam locomotive was built by the American Locomotive Company (ALCO) at Pittsburg Works in May 1906.
According to the 'Grand Canyon Railway Territorial Times', No. 29 served on the Lake Superior & Ishpeming Railroad in northern Michigan hauling iron ore to the Marquette docks 20 miles away for nearly 30 years after which it sat idle for 30 years and then was converted from coal to oil fuel in August 1989.
This locomotive was used until recently during the summer months to haul the train between Williams and the south rim of the Grand Canyon, but is has become too costly. This locomotive uses 1,000 gallons of fuel oil versus the 245 gallons used by the current engines for the trip.
No. 29 is now used only on special occasions.
