Description
Callipepla gambellii.
These birds are common in the Sonoran Desert. I frequently see whole families, both parents and often 24 or more youngsters. The males make good fathers. They will roost in low trees, but nest on the ground in a bush. Their call is a gentle and soothing sound. This is a male.
This is one of my earliest bird photos and I was very happy with it. When I got the prints back, I was looking at them in a restaurant, and another customer wanted to know how much I would charge her if she bought the photo. I said, $100. She didn't buy.
