The concept for this artwork originally came from a render challenge back in the summer of 2009. I liked the artwork I made at the time but, now that my skills have vastly improved, I knew I could do a much better job of illustrating my original concept. I'm quite pleased with the way this "redux" turned out. I rendered the scene several times with various parts shown or hidden then turned all the renders into layers on a Photoshop image. Using brushes, I created the tearing of the skin effect to show the metal and wires beneath then added an inner shadow to each rip/tear. After a few other tricks in PS, I came up with what you see here. It may have taken a few weeks to get this artwork looking right but it was all worth it in the end. Character used is my Deirdre V4.
