Description
I've actually had the concept for this image in my head for a long time. With my modeling of Soundwave, the hard work to complete this image became available.
The picture is of my hand taken on the balcony here in my Tokyo apartment. The shadow is cast on a flat plane changed to a shadow catcher with another picture of the palm of my hand to get the texture right.
The picture was actually harder to take than I thought. I had to set it up and then move into the camera and wait for the camera timer to go off and snap the shot.
I wanted the depth of field to be tight for the picture of my hand but it looks a little weird. Soundwave is in reasonable focus when my arm is all blurry behind his head. Technically this is an accurate depiction of what it would look if it were real but it still looks a little wonky.
The image was composited and rendered in Carrara. Post work was done in Paint Shop Pro. I blurred Soundwave up just a tween, desaturated him, and also dropped his contrast a little bit.
A separate mask was rendered to recombine the adjustments with the original image. I also ran a few sharpen passes on the original photograph of my hand prior to the render.
This didn't come out as real looking as I wanted but it's still a fun project and I learned a few things.
It's art.
