Description
Fisher Island, 0.3 square miles (0.9 km2), is a neighborhood of metropolitan Miami, Florida, located on a barrier island, 3 miles off the shores of the city of Miami. It was once the single island home of the Vanderbilt family. As of the 2000 census, they now have 218 households and a total population of 467 persons. No road or bridge connects to the island, which is accessible only by private boat or ferry. It remains an exclusive and wealthy community. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Fisher Island had the highest per capita income of any place in the United States, in 2000.
Looking at the traffic backup on the General Douglas MacArthur Causeway, the ferry to Fisher Island is a the better commute option. Info from Wikipedia.
