Description
There's a huge array of things I'm supposed to be doing today, so of course I did something else, instead! At any rate, I'm trying to make as much use of the last few days of my involuntary vacation-time (Otherwise known as "downsizing") since I'm returning to the ranks of the gainfully employed next week. Anyway, I've got a project in the works with my mom, and this is kind of an outgrowth of that. She makes quilts, and I'm on the verge of making fabric for her to use in some quilts! I'm quite excited about this development, and I can't wait to see how this all works out.
At any rate, this is built entirely within Photoshop, the stars were initially generated by a plugin called "Glitterato" but I altered it to get a more random and varied distribution. Then I started stacking in layers of stuff taken from photos of clouds. I've built up a huge library of close to 300 pictures of clouds, now, and whenever I see interesting cloud formations I can't help reaching for my camera. This went through 6 different variations, with well over 30 layers, but I kind of lost count as I started grouping them together and such.
Hope you enjoy the view!

full view is AMAZING.. you are there
Congrats on the job (Hope to be joining those ranks soon myself). Nice neb too!
Those are just fantastic layers! Very convincing lanes of bright and dark. Great nebula and congratulations on the job!
Very cool work! Congratulations on the new job. I wish you the best
I'd say all Your hard work on this payed off. This looks like a real photo of a Nebula and star field. Very well done !!
Wow amazing superb work 1!
Fantastic image my friend and all the best with the quilts, they'll look fantastic. Geoff.
Yet another stunning space-scape. Well done.
Stunning work! Certainly one of your best ever! As MSTene said, full view is a must. I hope that your project with your mom gets right.
belle image!!
Wonderful!!!
This is super, and congratulations on the new job. There's always a particular sort of excitement that goes along with new employment stuff. Hopefully it's a good one. As for this image! WOW! I happen to be a sucker for a good reflection nebula...I like emission nebulae as well, but there's just something about all of that blueness that really appeals to me. Maybe it's from a childhood spent watching movies like The Black Hole (Remember that one?) or the first Star Trek featuring V'ger (the great grandaddy of all big, blue clouds, at least on screen) And all of that is to say, yeah, blue clouds rock! I particularly like the layers and all of the activity going on in and around this one. This rocks, and I'm quite intrigued as well about your mom's project. All-in-all, I really like this; it's one of those "Hey Hubble, eat your heart out" kinds of shots.
First - congrats on snagging a new position - I hope it works out well for you! Second - man, if your mom is making quilts out of these images.......let me get my order in now... This is another kick-butt starscape, Mike! I just love these! You've inspired me to keep looking up, and I'm beginning to compile a nice collection of cloud photos.... Speaking of space and looking up..... Don't know if it's made the news in your part of the country, but around Kansas City we've had a lot of sightings of mysterious lights in the sky - they were talking about it on the news tonight. The lights appear as orange orbs - my wife and I actually saw one a couple years ago. I don't have any idea what they are, but they seem to appear about this time of year. Guess I'll just have to call them what they - technically speaking - are...UFOs. Wierd. Anyway, I'm hoping to shake loose a little more free time soon, and I can't wait to sit down and play with the clouds and Photoshop!
Excellent work.
It reminds me of The Orion Nebula. Really nice work. :)
Glad to hear you are going back to work. The project with your mom sounds fabulous.
Your technique works well DrO. We can all borrow from NASA but you don't have to so can produce more original work. Very well done :)
Very cool image.
EXCELLENT
This is beautiful, you many-layered man!:-)
