I have a book here... Called 'The Longest Siege: The Battle That Saved North Africa by Robert Lyman', and it highlights, among others the outstanding part Commonwealth Troops played in that Battle.. Respect is due of the highest praise! Good shot mate! Rob

Which of them? The British siege against the Italians? The German siege against the British? Or, the British siege against the Germans? The city changed hands 3 times. But, that flag tells of the intensity of the battles. It's surprising there was anything much of the city standing when the war in North Africa was over. Thanks for the post and the reminder of the sacrifices for our freedom. Keep up the good work! :-)

Yeah good point T.Rex. In Australia at least the term 'Siege of Tobruk' is defined by The Australian War Memorial as encompassing the entire Allied/Axis 40 day campaign until the Eighth Army prevailed during Operation Crusader. I am no expert, but maybe all the moving around was why this flag is now so frayed!!!!!! Just as aside, my uncle was a Rat of Tobruk and was lucky enough to come home and live to the ripe old age of 93! Andrew
