Description
Deuteronomy 15:11 There will always be poor people in the land. Therefore I command you to be openhanded toward your brothers and toward the poor and needy in your land.
When I was twenty-four I was broke and unemployed. If not for the charity of some people I knew who let me sleep in their garage I might have become this man. Because of this, though I am not a Christian, I have always found great meaning in Matthew 25:40 - ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
Taken on Market Street in that shining city on the hill near the Golden Gate.
Wishing you all a Good Friday and Happy Easter.

and this is why I work at where I do... great capture, Mark
To see things like that in this day and age makes me want to cry we live in a world where the elderly get charged astronomical fees to be able to live independently leagalised theft sorry im ranting on i wish everyone thought like you then maybe the world would be a better place !!
Show me an alley, show me a train Show me a hobo who sleeps out in the rain And I'll show you a young man With many reasons why There but for fortune, may go you or go I -Phil Ochs- That is a favorite passage for me too. All religions that I've become in anyway familiar with have some form of the message to treat others as you would like to be treated. No one would want to be left forgotten by the wayside. Excellent image and words.
This makes my heart ache. As a mother, I always look at these unfortunate people and think about what their mother's would feel to see their baby end up like this. I like the way you simply and cleanly captured the heart.
In such pics, I always have a lump in my throat. Of course I can not give every homeless person money - the n I'm sitting next to it soon - but everyone can help in the form of donations in kind or for example, help out in the soup kitchen ..... It does not matter if you belong to a religion. The need to help, is human
A superb image, Mark, and the message is clear.
Fantastic photo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In some parts of England he would have had his shoes stolen within minutes. Super find.
Heart brealking shot. I often think of how little it needs to come in this situation. I am so grateful for having a home I love, so I often ponder of people not so fortunate. We have homeless people in Sweden too, but not so many as you have.
I work in the area I do for this reason. Every person in this difficult position has a story as to why they are where they are. They come from all walks of life and yes I agree.... There for the grace. A sad lonely figure.
Makes me sad - in our time ....
It also breaks my heart to view this capture, Mark - but we don't really know his side of the story - trust me our door is always open, for anyone who is in need of help ... (I cannot believe, how snow-white his socks are?) maybe things are not quite as bad as they appear? let's hope so anyway! BB
Great street shot ,Mark ! Splendid capture !
As i grodwed up, i was educated in the mind, that this is unworthy for mankind... This was the offical politics and ideology of my homecountry. May others called him a dictatorship - it was more an democracy as others today... The grimmer thing - some popele of our contry immolated the rest of their fellow men to fullfill their own fantasies... And now we have these states of poorness, homelessness and unemployement too - things they have been foreign word about 40 years in our country...
What can I say what has not been said before me. Very touching and straight to the heart capture.
this obviously strikes a chord with you, and now that you have told us this the chord has been expanded, A capture that shows us an all to familiar sight these days, globally i would say. The best of Easter wishes to you and yours.
A great capture and your message is very clear. I hope you are having a happy Easter.
TERRIFIC IMAGE! WE HAVE MANY OF THEM IN THE AREA WHERE I LIVE, UNFORTUNATELY.
Cheer up! The Corporations are making record profits! When corporations can now be "persons" who needs this guy?
Very sad, hard to imagine that type of life, someone mentioned putting in time at a soup kitchen, well I have had that experience we put on a meal with our girl scout troop one year, and we all did a lot of work for that night we cooked and purchased the food items, prepared and served the meals along with the girls in the troop and we also all took the time to sit and talk and visit with the people that came in for the meal it was done at a local church, and I would do it again in a heartbeat. If nothing else it put me in these peoples place for an evening it opened my eyes that they are just like you and me, and as you said it can and could happen to any of us. I am glad that you had families that took you in and cared as well.
